Geotrust has two different product lines for certificates. RapidSSL is a simple, inexpensive and quick way to get a new public registered certificate, a complete automatic process which only demands you to reply on a mail sent to the responsible person for the domain applying for. This certificate has a very aggressive pricing but somehow limited when it comes to the spread of root certificates in phones and PDA:s. It is always possible to install a root certificate in the PDA but it is nothing you want to do with several hundreds of PDA:s. The other series of certificate is the Geotrust series, available in different levels depending of what type of business you are working with.
To order a new certificate a certificate request from the server is always necessary. In Windows servers this is done in the IIS configuration panel in the standard web site and the label security. More information on this link.
Rapid-SSL is also available for evaluation in a 30 days free version. The wild card version is valid for all names within a domain (*.domain, however not for the name .domain without name)
