To configure wireless networks has become increasingly simple. If it does not work follow this troubleshooting scheme. Test from a PC with the access point nearby:
1. Is the radio receiver turned on?
In the control panel on Network connections you will find the symbol for your wireless network.
If not present you PC is missing ability to receive radio signals or the wireless card is physically
turned off. If not, check with your vendor for drivers that support the card.
To check your access point, try with another PC where you verified the wireless function.
2. Is the radio transmitter in your access point active and configured?
If your PC and access point is connected to a switch you will be able to connect to the accession
with a common web client. Write the IP address of the access point in the address field
IP address, user and password is available in the documentation. Check if the radio is turned on.
Check if your access point has a SSID that it announce. SSID broadcast must be on for you
to see it in your PC. If you still don't see it try to install the netstumbler (free) where you
can see all available SSID.
3. Is encryption misconfigured?
If you see a SSID in your PC but can't connect you can try with turning off encryption in your AP.
This is done in the same place in the AP where you configured SSID. Place it in "open system"
and if you have an encryption choice it must be turned off. Warning! Don't try to long, in this
state anyone will be able to connect to your network.
4. Configure encryption!
If you are able to connect without encryption then only this configuration is left.
The most safe encryption without certificate is done with WPA-PSK (Pre shared key)
with TKIP the new, secure key sharing protocol. You also need to configure the key or
"shared secret" as it is commonly called. Now you should be able to connect with your
PC. If not try to remove the previous configuration under Control panel and network connections
