Wireless LAN communication has become increasingly more popular over the last decade. After a period of matureness with lack of functionality and good security it has finally lift off and becoming more and more popular. The security has been proofed good enough even for enterprises.

By pressure from the vendor organization WiFi new standards has evolved based on the standardized protocol IPsec and is today as secure as technology used for encryption of private VPN traffic over the Internet.

Warning:

Always encrypt information that are to be transported over radio links, it is always possible for unauthorized persons to listen to and record radio signals. You have to provide a secure password (encryption key) for the security to work, unencrypted anyone can connect to your network and listen to traffic.

Don't use the old encryption protocol WEP, it has flaws and is not secure, it is a matter of minutes to break the key. However, WEP is better than nothing at all! (also see certificate)

The new security protocol for wireless that is developed from the WiFi organization is named WPA (WPA2)
